Unravelling the Problem

Based on research findings, search and rescue operations must be conducted in a timely and effective manner, but have always been situational and unpredictable

In just two minutes, the fire can spread to the point where it can be life threatening
Firefighters typically carry heavy equipment and rely on intel for communication

Hypothesis

By incorporating existing technologies and systems that enhance mobility, communication, and time, the firefighting search and rescue process will be shortened, ultimately increasing the odds of survival by 20%.

Addresses user error prevention, sensory input upon activation, and consistent product aesthetics with UST Gear brand

Preliminary Prototype

Prior to event, building data is downloaded to gain information on map layout (key intel)

Prototypes integrate 3d layout of building as the main interface that can be toggled

Ability to view alerted civilians and firefighters during scene of event for effective communication

* 3d map supported by virtual software platforms such as Matterport and Polycam

User prompted to input address of the incident to start navigation and access its building data

Case A

3d floorplan can be toggled. Key information such as civilian and firefighter location is displayed in real time, to aid the communication process

Case B

Stairwells and exits can be toggled on or off. Clicking on civilian icon would reveal more relevant info. Alarms detected is displayed on top left and under “floor list” for more accurate location

Case C

Perspective view can be activated under “overview” to oversee the entire building

Case D

When no alarms are signaled, the “Kyo Count” on the top left screen would be grayed out. Building layout and other information would still be provided
